Green & Sweet: St. Patrick's Day Baking with My 11-Year-Old

St. Patrick's Day baking with my 11-year-old. The rules are simple: it has to be green, it has to be sweet, and it has to come straight from the heart.

A few drops of green food coloring transformed our classic bake, with some added extra sprinkles (naturally).

Because that's what maker generations do. We take what came before us, add a splash of green (literally, in this case), and create something that becomes part of our family's story.

Here's to sweet traditions and the little hands helping keep them alive. 🍀

Maker Café at Ulster American Folk Park — Baking Traditions Come Alive

I'm thrilled to share what's happening at Maker Café at the Ulster American Folk Park, a beautiful initiative celebrating the recipes, stories, and traditions that connect us across generations.

Here's how you can join in:

  • Share your recipe — Do you have a cherished family baking recipe? We want to hear about it! Post the recipe and tell us its story.
  • Take pictures — Bake it at home and capture the magic. Your kitchen, your hands, your creation
  • Join the movement — Follow along as we build Maker Generations together, honoring the bakers who came before us and inspiring those to come.

Whether it's your grandmother's soda bread, your mother's fruit cake, or a recipe passed down through generations, we'd love to see it. Every loaf, biscuit, and pastry carries a story worth preserving.

Let's bake, share, and celebrate the timeless traditions that make us who we are.
