Our commitment

crann.ai is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to make our platform inclusive and usable.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility features

crann.ai includes the following accessibility features:

  • Read Aloud: Posts and content can be read aloud using natural-sounding text-to-speech. Controls include play, pause, stop, and adjustable reading speed.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. A skip-to-content link is available on every page.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus rings appear on all interactive elements when navigating with a keyboard.
  • Reduced motion: Animations and transitions are automatically disabled when your operating system's "reduce motion" preference is enabled.
  • Colour contrast: All generated themes are validated against WCAG AA contrast requirements. Text, headings, links, and interactive elements meet minimum contrast ratios.
  • Colour vision accessibility: Theme generation avoids relying solely on colour to convey meaning, ensuring usability for people with colour vision deficiency.
  • Screen reader support: Semantic HTML, ARIA landmarks, and descriptive labels are used throughout the platform to support assistive technologies.
  • Responsive design: The platform adapts to different screen sizes and supports text scaling without loss of functionality.

Known limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas are still being improved:

  • User-uploaded images may not always have descriptive alt text
  • Some complex interactive features (e.g. the rich text editor) may have limited screen reader support
  • Voice and video calls rely on third-party infrastructure that may have its own accessibility limitations
  • Read Aloud voice quality varies by browser and operating system

For the best accessibility experience, we recommend using the latest versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. The Read Aloud feature uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech engine, which works best on Safari (macOS/iOS) and Chrome.
