Leaves

Leaves are the core of crann.ai — your personal or business content spaces.

What is a leaf?

A leaf is a content space that lives under your crann.ai subdomain. Each leaf can hold posts, static pages, events, and contact forms. Think of it as a mini-website within your crann.ai presence.

Leaf types

You can create different kinds of leaves depending on your needs:

  • Personal — a blog, portfolio, or personal site
  • Business — a page for your company, product, or service
  • Community — a space for groups, clubs, or organisations

Creating a leaf

From your dashboard, click “Grow a New Leaf”. Give it a name, an optional description, and choose your settings. You can customise the theme and add tags to help others discover your leaf.

Display modes

Each leaf has a display mode that controls how posts are presented to visitors:

  • Feed — Posts in a chronological timeline (default)
  • Gallery — A visual grid of cards, ideal for photography, portfolio, or visual content
  • Podcast — Episodes with a built-in audio player and iTunes-compatible RSS feed (see Podcasts & Audio)

You can switch display modes at any time from the leaf editor without losing any content.

Themes

Each leaf can have its own theme — colours, fonts, layout, and visual effects. Themes let you match the look of your leaf to your personal or business brand.

You can generate themes using AI — the system analyses your leaf's topic and creates a cohesive design with colours, font pairings, ambiance (clean, editorial, atmospheric, retro, or bold-modern), and micro-interactions. You can provide colour hints or an inspiration image to guide the design.

All generated themes are automatically validated for accessibility — colours are checked against WCAG AA contrast requirements so your content is readable by everyone, including people with visual impairments or colour vision deficiency.

Visibility

Control who can see your leaf. Public leaves are visible to everyone. You can also adjust visibility settings from the leaf's settings page.

Tags

Add tags to your leaf to describe its topic or category. Tags help visitors discover your content and connect with related leaves. AI can also extract tags automatically from your posts based on content, location, and taxonomy context.

QR codes

Every leaf has a built-in QR code available from the leaf dashboard. You can download it as a PNG image or copy the leaf URL directly. QR codes are useful for sharing your leaf at events, on business cards, or in print materials.

Custom domains

You can connect your own domain to any leaf for a fully branded experience. See the Custom Domains guide for setup instructions.
